Association of Corporate Treasurers – organisation profile
The Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT) is the international body for finance professionals working in treasury, risk and corporate finance. We are the world’s leading examining body for treasury, providing benchmark qualifications and continuing development through training, conferences and publications, including The Treasurer magazine.
What is treasury? A career in treasury encourages you to be forward-thinking and instrumental to your organisation’s future strategy. Your day will be varied and challenging and will allow you to extend your skills in various disciplines, adding value to your role.
You will be involved in ensuring that your company always has the necessary cash available for it to run its business, while managing financial risks. You will handle the relationships with shareholders, banks and other lenders and will almost certainly be dealing with sums of money running into the millions, even billions.
The size of a treasury team is dependent on an organisation’s size and capabilities, so your accounting, banking or finance career will in some way run into elements of the treasury profession. Treasury is what many would call the fun side of finance.
The opportunities
You are likely to begin your career investing cash, dealing with foreign exchange or developing financial models. You can expect a minimum starting salary of £25,000. Qualified treasurers with experience can expect a salary of £100,000+, with additional higher earning opportunities.
Becoming ACT-qualified will set you apart from your peers and present you with more career opportunities because of your advanced and specialised knowledge of the finance world. The ACT/Curzon salary survey revealed that ACT-qualified professionals receive a definite salary boost compared with their non ACT-qualified peers.
Flexible study
Our qualifications are based on flexible distance learning combining online study with tutor support and revision courses. Completion of our qualifications leads to membership of the ACT, which enables you to use the assigned designatory letters after your name.
We offer the following qualifications: Certificate Papers: International Treasury Management (CertITM), International Cash Management (CertICM) and Financial Mathematics and Modelling (CertFMM).
AMCT Diploma in Treasury and the MCT Advanced Diploma in Treasury, Risk and Corporate Finance.
