Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland – organisation profile

In today’s highly competitive global business environment there is no place for standing still. As a Chartered Accountant (CA), we can assure you that you won’t. Having attained the most prestigious financially based business qualification there is, you will undoubtedly stand out from the crowd.

What makes a CA stand out?

  • Hobsons GET - A unique qualification – only ICAS members have the exclusive rights in the UK to use the letters ‘CA’.
  • Outstanding career prospects – ICAS remains the only UK body to both train and examine all of its students, ensuring employers worldwide recognise that the CA qualification stands for consistency and high standards.
  • Membership of the fastest growing accountancy body in the UK in terms of worldwide student numbers, with a student growth rate of 94%. Employers offering CA training include public practice firms of all sizes, from small/medium to the ‘Big 4’, with ICAS now training all of Ernst and Young’s chartered students UK-wide. Through the Institute’s TOPP scheme (Training Outside Public Practice), there are opportunities with a wide range of employers, including BP, Deutsche Bank, HBOS, The Royal Bank of Scotland, Standard Life and Norwich Union.

And you don’t have to be based in Scotland – ICAS actually train more students in England than in Scotland.

Becoming a CA

By becoming a CA you will be recognised as the best. You will gain the highest level of financial expertise and all-round business skills, making you instantly attractive to employers worldwide. With over 16,000 members working around the world, opportunities for CAs are as diverse as they are exciting.

Application procedure

To qualify as a CA you must apply for a three-year training contract with an organisation authorised to train CA students. Applications can be made online via the ICAS graduate recruitment website (ca-training.co.uk).

You don’t have to be an accountancy graduate to apply. What you will need is a desire to stand out from the crowd, to be the best and to really move forward with your chosen career. Stand out – become a CA.
