Job title: Technologist
Degree: BSc Information Systems Engineering
University: University of Westminster
Post graduation in summer 2004 I started looking for my first job, with so many options available I found it very difficult to decide what to apply for. The graduate scheme at Capgemini offered an opportunity to sample different roles across different industries to gain experience and insight before making the decision of which area to settle in.
Why Capgemini?
Capgemini’s broad client portfolio enables them to offer graduates a wide variety of roles across different technologies and industries. Capgemini is an industry leader with a global reach; the key to their success in my opinion is in their ability to recognise diversity and encourage individuality.
Accelerated Technologist Programme (ATP)
The ATP is a fantastic place to launch your career; get hands-on industry experience, gain recognised certifications and build a large network of friends/contacts. If you are flexible and open to the thrill of exciting challenges the ATP could be right for you. The ATP is a continuously growing group of talented technologists, each with a unique perspective to offer, it is the diversity of the group that makes it stand out from the other graduate schemes.
I have taken on a number of different roles ranging from development to business consulting. The Accelerated Technologist Programme (ATP) has supported me with each role by providing training and support, and continuously encouraged me to develop my soft and technical skills in line with my own aspirations. The ATP provides graduates with some great challenges, provided you are flexible and willing to work hard, you will find the scheme extremely rewarding.
Training
Capgemini provides employees with training as required for a role/project. All graduates are encouraged to attend a software engineering immersion course /technical consulting skills workshop within their first year with the company. The course is held at the Capgemini University (France), it is a thoroughly enjoyable week with opportunities to learn about up and coming technologies and to meet colleagues from across the globe.
Support network & community
As an ATP graduate you will naturally have a large network from day one (the ATP, the Project Team, Buddies, Mentors and Reviewers), as you move across projects your network is likely to grow and open up new opportunities for you.
The ATP community is divided into work groups, each graduate on the programme will belong to one of these groups. The working groups (which are graduate led), give opportunities to get involved with some of the business’s core activities such as recruitment, learning and development or marketing.
Life at Capgemini
Three words – Work, Life, Balance. There are challenging times when you may be expected to put in long hours or work away from home, but efforts are always recognised and support is always available.
