We offer the most flexible training contract in the City - you’ll rotate through ’seats’ (periods of work experience) in up to seven different practice groups. Our training programme is designed to help people find the part of the firm that best suits their individual talents and interests.

Structure

At your induction programme you will meet not only your peer group who will be training with you in London, but colleagues from our international network of offices who have recently joined the firm as well. You will also receive formal induction into the practice groups you join. Your first seat will be for six months, and after that you can choose whether you spend three or six months in the practice areas. You will sit with experienced associates and partners who will expect you to get involved with real work straight away. Our flexible training contract means that you can tailor your training to suit your particular skills and interests. We also offer secondments to clients and to our international offices.

Skills development

Your personal and professional development is vital to your future as a lawyer - and it is also vital to the future of the firm. As well as the in-depth training you will receive by working alongside experts in their field, we provide extensive ’off the job’ training at every stage, up to and including partners. Teams and practice groups hold regular update sessions, the practice and sector groups hold residential conferences and we offer innovative international programmes to develop the range of your team, project and client management skills. We write and deliver most of our training in-house, so that it is directly relevant to your needs. Our aim is to develop your full potential as a lawyer and as a business adviser.

Qualifications

You will qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales at the end of your two year training contract, although some of those who come to us to train are already qualified in other jurisdictions (or as barristers) and take the Qualified Lawyers’ Transfer Test.

Career development

We constantly review and appraise our own performance to see where we can improve. We offer you ongoing feedback as well as formal appraisals on your performance every 3 months. There are frequently career development opportunities for our qualified lawyers in our international network and with our clients. Many of our lawyers forge long careers with the firm, both as ’fee earners’ and in business service roles. We foster a supportive, collegiate environment in which we can make the most of all the diverse talents we have within the firm.
