EU-funded vocational training programme ’Leonardo da Vinci’

European Training Services Limited is a private company, unique in its kind, which has been established in Lichfield, in the Midlands, for approximately 15 years. Their principal activity is organising EU-funded vocational training programmes within Europe, specifically recruiting for the Leonardo da Vinci programmes during the first Phase (1995-2000), the second Phase (2000-2006) and the ’Lifelong Learning programme’ (2007-2013). Prior to that, youth exchanges were organised under Petra and other initiatives.

The objectives of the scheme are to enhance employability of people in the labour market by adding professional skills, social skills and language skills, as well as a European dimension, to their CV. The opportunity of working and living in a foreign culture has proved invaluable in making participants more open-minded and culturally aware.

The Leonardo da Vinci programme consists of a 2 weeks’ language course abroad, followed by 10 weeks’ work placement. Although there are no salaried positions, the Leonardo grant will cover International travel, Language course in the destination country for two weeks, accommodation, insurance and a living allowance towards food and local travel costs. The type of work experience provided is mainly in the multi-professional sector and the type of work will depend upon pre-existing language skills, professional/educational background and career goals. Any sector of activity is considered. The type of placement will be discussed at interview with the host organizer and language skills will be tested if necessary. The selected participants will be expected to learn/improve on language skills prior to departure as tasks will depend on language skills or technical skills.

Destination countries are Italy (Padova) and France (Montpellier, Lyon, and Ales). Knowledge equivalent to GCSE/A level and up to degree-level French is a pre-requisite to be invited for interview. Italian language skills are an advantage but not necessary to be considered for Italy.
