Each year local authorities all across London come together to recruit and train high calibre graduates who want to pursue a career in public finance. It’s all about putting bright and talented graduates through a four-year learning curve that will form the first part of the journey towards senior management....
Experience everything
This is a bespoke rotational scheme, which will give you exposure to every element of local government finance. You will join a specific authority on a fixed-term four-year contract. You will take on a mix of day-to-day work and key projects in all the important areas include systems, budget preparation and monitoring, payroll, pensions, treasury, internal audit and accounting.
You will also be sponsored to study for the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) Professional Accountancy Qualification.
But it isn’t just about your career. Every decision you make, every issue you address, and every recommendation you put forward will have an impact on the community you serve.
What you’re made of
You can come from any degree background, as long as you have achieved or are expecting a minimum of a 2:2 have GCSE or equivalent maths and English (Grade C or above), and a flair for numbers. Excellent numeric, writing, oral and presentation skills are a must, as are computer literacy and first-class time management skills.
But there’s so much more to you. It’s obvious you’re a leader of the future. You’re a born communicator, flexible enough to handle constant change, and durable enough to meet every challenge head on. Your insatiable desire to learn will be obvious, as will your ability to solve problems with really innovative thinking.
