Alstom is the global leader in power generation and rail infrastructure and sets the benchmark for innovative and environmentally friendly technologies, designing and delivering solutions now, to shape the future.

Alstom is the global leader in power generation

Our cleaner and safer technology is already delivering environmental and social benefits, from reducing emissions of pollutants and CO2 in our power stations to saving energy by designing more efficient trains. We build the world’s cleanest power plants using advanced boiler and steam turbine technologies and the most comprehensive range of air emissions control equipment anywhere in the industry and our UK Steam Turbines Retrofit solutions will reduce CO2 emissions by 1.3 million tonnes. As these infrastructures will be used for decades to come, our innovative solutions must remain at the leading edge of technology.

The UK is a key country for Alstom – employing 5000 people in 30 locations designing and delivering solutions for the power and rail transport industries. We have made significant investment in our UK sites where design; engineering and project management play a major part of our global operations for new equipment and service.

The 53 strong fleet of Alstom-designed, built and maintained Pendolino tilting trains are among the most advanced in the world, setting safety and speed standards on the UK’s West Coast Main Line. We are also working to apply CITADIS tram technology to the UK, in Dublin, and supporting Transport for London’s Cross River Tram proposal.

Over the next 20 years, the UK will need to increase capacity by 20,000MW . Alstom offers a balanced portfolio of energy supply to meet this demand. We have supplied over 50% of the UK’s installed generating base and provide services to all the major domestic power generators.

Development

The purpose of our graduate scheme is to provide graduate trainees with the opportunity to gain an awareness and understanding of their allocated business through key placements over a two-year period.  Our graduate trainees are supported by their managers and mentors so that they understand our underlying key principles, goals and strategy , thus giving  them  the foundations to  become  leaders within our organisation.
We have a structured approach to our two-year programme which fully supports graduates in achieving chartered status of their professional body through personal and professional learning and development (e.g. some elements of our scheme are accredited by the relevant body e.g. the IMechE).   The scheme also includes a modular ‘development’ programme, which runs alongside individual business placements to enable graduates to develop their leadership and non-technical skills - at Alstom we feel that it is important to promote professional career development initiatives to ensure effective learning as well as enabling networking opportunities amongst the Alstom UK graduate community.
