6 Pump Court is a medium sized chambers that undertakes a variety of work over many areas of law.
We have several practice areas namely, Planning and Environmental, Criminal, Civil and Commercial, Regulatory and Family.
The planning and environmental work includes cases heard in the House of Lords, the criminal work spans all levels including homicide and serious fraud and the civil and commercial team deal with all aspects of breach of contract and negligence. The Regulatory team is one which is fast developing, recently and increasingly dealing with high profile health and safety cases.
The principal aim of pupillage is to provide pupils with a thorough grounding in basic civil and criminal skills together with an opportunity to develop any interest that they may have in any of the other practice areas.
Pupillage is normally split between three pupil supervisors over the course of the year but pupils are encouraged to spend time with other members of chambers if there is a particular type of work or individual case that they may be interested in. Pupillages are funded with a grant of £15,000 for the first six months and guaranteed earnings of £15,000 in the second six months.
Chambers operates in a friendly and relatively informal environment and pupils are able to draw on the combined experience of all members should they need to. We aim to be approachable and supportive throughout pupillage.
Tenants are in the main recruited from pupils and applications are based solely on merit. We do not operate a 'quota' system for selection and believe that good junior tenants will generate their own work.
Applications for pupillage are to be made through the Bar Council's 'pupillage portal' application scheme.
