About us

On 1 January 2008, Kendall Freeman completed its merger with Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge to create an international firm with over 600 attorneys across 11 offices in the UK and US. In the UK and US we are internationally recognised for our work in commercial litigation, insurance and reinsurance and corporate. The combined expertise of the US and UK lawyers will make for powerful global practices in the newly merged firm. Seven of our London partners were recently named in 'The Expert Guide to the World's Leading Lawyers'. The London office will continue to practice and strengthen its existing areas, maintaining its reputation for offering effective commercial solutions and excellent client service to a wide range of international clients.

Our graduate recruitment opportunities

The London office will recruit up to eight trainees each year meaning we can offer top quality work, early responsibility and client contact in the collaborative environment of a small, strong, established City practice. You'll be taking an active team role, working on complex and often multi-jurisdictional matters, providing you with opportunities to shine and to get proper recognition for your contribution. We've been winners in a number of categories in the last two Lex 100 annual surveys, acknowledging the importance we place on the quality of your graduate training, wellbeing and the experiences you gain.

Graduate training and development

We believe supervised practical experience and having influence over the matters you're involved with, is the best form of training. This approach puts learning into action and gives you a positive start to your career.

A comprehensive induction is followed by six months in four of the firm’s practice areas and regular workshops develop the skills needed for those areas. You will have significant input in the choice of your seats. Secondment opportunities in your second year, to the in-house legal department of a major client, gives you the chance to build on and maximise the knowledge and skills gained. A US secondment may also be possible.

Regular feedback, reviews and a multi-level support network of partners, mentors and a buddy system ensures you have the right level of guidance and support. A trainee committee, with representatives from the first and second years, the trainee principal and partners, enables discussion on new ideas and any areas of concern. Our trainees are a highly visible part of the firm. We view them as the partners of the future.

What we look for

Although consistent academic ability is important ( min 2:1 degree and 300 UCAS points), we value graduates who have energy, business sense, commitment, the ability to communicate very well with others and who can be proactive on every level. Trainees contribute to marketing, client development and pro-bono activities early on and to the life of the firm as a whole. However we recognise the importance of life outside work and keeping good balance. After all, the things you do outside work help make you an individual and we look for people with interesting achievements.

Funding

Full GDL/LPC funding plus maintenance of £6,500 for courses within London and £6,000 for courses elsewhere.
