World Vision is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organisation dedicated to working with children, their families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice, with 3 million supporters and nearly 31,000 locally based staff helping 100 million people in 100 countries around the world. World Vision is built on Christian core values, which are reflected in its ethos and culture.
World Vision UK is based in Milton Keynes and employs 200 people in five business areas:
International Programmes
Our International Programmes (IP) Group incorporates expertise in both development and disaster response. Development is about empowering those who are poor; working with the world’s most poverty-stricken and vulnerable children, their families and communities, in their journey to a life full of dignity, justice, peace and hope. This longer-term development focus is complemented by World Vision’s humanitarian emergency affairs work, which provided fast and effective responses to 85 disasters around the world in 2007 alone. We have four teams in IP: Regional Programmes, Humanitarian Emergency Affairs, Programme Resources Support (focuses on optimising our income from governmental grants), and Technical Support (providing expertise in areas such as civil society, disability and HIV & Aids).
Advocacy
Advocacy is about speaking out against injustice and the abuse of rights, with and on behalf of the poor and oppressed. It is about influencing decision makers and challenging policies that cause inequality and suffering. World Vision’s advocacy work involves research, developing policy, lobbying, engaging with churches and young people, public campaigning, and encouraging debate. We focus on six key issues; Child Rights, Economic Justice, HIV and Aids, Peace and Conflict, Disability, and Education.
Marketing and Fundraising
None of World Vision UK’s work would be possible without the contributions of several hundred thousand individual members of the public who give to World Vision, partnering with us and sharing our passion for a fairer, more just world. Our Marketing teams focus their energy, ideas and enthusiasm on maximizing the giving to World Vision UK. They seek to strengthen our brand and to build sustainable funding streams as they explore innovative ways to involve more and more supporters in our rewarding work. We have four marketing teams: Consumer Marketing (focusing on attracting new supporter through a focus on brand, new product development, and on-line strategies), Supporter Development (exploring supporter loyalty and retention), Specialist Giving & Insights (with a focus on market research, Charitable Trusts, Major Donors, Corporates, and Legacies), and Supporter Care (providing our supporters with excellent customer service and care).
