Name: Andrew Phipps-Jones
Job Title: Process Engineer
University attended: Bath University
Degree obtained: MA in Chemical Engineering
Age: 24

As a Chemical Engineer, I had options to pursue a career in pharmaceuticals or food processing but strongly preferred the lure of the energy industry. WorleyParsons appealed to me as it is a major contractor with clients all over the world. Furthermore, the company serves the entire energy sector – including minerals as well as oil and gas. I am now a Process Engineer involved in the design of oil and gas plants for blue-chip clients across several continents. Travel to exotic locations is not only a perk of the job but also a real challenge. Working overseas – especially in some of the remote locations chosen for oil and gas plants – requires that you possess the flexibility needed to adapt not only to different climates but also to different cultures and working practices. Whilst this can certainly be demanding it is, for me, one of the key attractions of my job.

Excellent Support

A current project of mine (for which I am acting as Lead Process Engineer) involves the design of a new oil and gas plant in Russia. I have now been involved with this project for seven months – including one month spent working in a Russian design office. This was a particularly fascinating experience as Russian business culture remains significantly different to that of Western Europe.

I am now looking forward to visiting the site of the proposed plant – in the Arctic Circle! High quality training is an undoubted strength of WorleyParsons.

Excellent support is provided to help graduates attain Chartered status as quickly as possible. Project work is also carefully targeted to ensure that it remains relevant to your professional development requirements. WorleyParsons is a very friendly employer – people here are readily approachable and bond quickly. If you’re an engineering graduate, WorleyParsons should be at the very top of your list of potential employers.
