Name: Gerard Kenny
Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
University attended: Dublin Institute of Technology, Ireland
Degree obtained: BEng in Mechanical Engineering
Age: 25

I wanted a career that would allow me to see the world. As graduation approached, it became clear that a career in the oil and gas industry would be the best way for me to achieve this. I began seeking an employer with genuine global presence offering a variety of experience across both small and large projects in key sectors from design engineering to construction management. I also wanted my employer to provide an IMechE accredited training programme.

WorleyParsons met these criteria – and offered plenty more besides. I am now a Mechanical Engineer providing support on proposals, FEED projects and detailed design projects. I am responsible for the design and specification of a wide range of mechanical equipment – including pumps, compressors, heat exchangers and vessels.
My first WorleyParsons project was highly memorable. I spent a year working on the detailed design of an oil and gas plant in Kazakhstan. This was especially challenging due to the remote location of the plant and extreme temperatures of the region (-36c to +40c).

Entrepreneurial Sprit

Training at WorleyParsons is world class and graduates receive support to help them achieve Chartered status as quickly as possible. In line with the requirements of the MPDS (Monitored Professional Development Scheme), graduates are rotated between different projects. Thus, I have completed four diverse projects within the past six months. WorleyParsons is an enjoyable place to work. The Graduate Development Organisation (GDO) offers regular sports and social activities throughout the company. The GDO’s Global Graduate Website has also proved to be an excellent networking tool – helping me make friends with colleagues all over the globe. My main message to graduates considering applying to WorleyParsons is – just do it!

There is a positive, entrepreneurial spirit here that is truly empowering. WorleyParson’s graduates really are seen as the future of the company.
