Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) – Training information

CIPS

CIPS study programmes are recognised around the world and after successfully studying to gain full membership of CIPS you will have the support of a well-informed professional body. Our research shows that CIPS members enjoy higher salaries than non-members in similar roles.

The graduate route

The CIPS Graduate Diploma is a degree-level professional qualification. The CIPS Qualification ladder is made up of graduated steps which link together in a cohesive way. The ladder offers something for everyone, whether you’ve just entered the profession or are operating at a strategic level. The CIPS qualifications are regulated by the Qualifications curriculum authority and fit within the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). The ladder incorporates six qualifications levels and therefore extends from NQF level 2 to NQF level 7. Levels 4,5 and 6 on the ladder make up the CIPS Graduate Diploma and together with three years work experience will lead to MCIPS. Incorporated in to the qualifications is an understanding of generic business competencies which cover a broad base of subjects such as Effective Negotiation, finance, governance and compliance and softer skills such as personal effectiveness to name but a few.

It is possible to obtain exemption from some subjects depending on previous academic record and work experience. You can study or be exempt from levels 4 and 5 but all students have to study level 6.

There are various methods of studying for the Graduate Diploma, including evening classes, distance learning through correspondence course, and a self study programme using the CIPS course books. CIPS also offers a flexible learning scheme to support self-study programmes. An alternative is modular training offered by CIPS which consists of a series of intensive tutorial days. Examinations are held each May and November.

The designatory letters MCIPS will be given following completion of the Graduate Diploma and three years work experience.
