Diversity

At Enterprise, we believe that people are the key to our success. It’s the hard work and dedication of 64,500 employees that makes our $9 billion turnover possible. Our employees do so much for us, it’s only right that we do everything we can for them. That’s why we nurture our talent and help our employees realise their potential.

Forward-thinking diversity initiatives

Diversity is a central goal in all areas of our business, and our commitment to a diverse workplace extends to every employee, customer and business partner. We strive to celebrate the many differences that make us unique and know that it’s these differences that help make ours a successful business. It’s our goal to create a culturally aware work force and a culturally competent organisation that mirrors the makeup of the communities we serve.

Corporate leadership

Working with the company’s executive leadership, our European Human Resources Director is responsible for the implementation of Europe’s overall diversity strategy.

Diversity teams - career and family focus

Our UK and Ireland Diversity/Career and Family Focus Group helps us recruit, retain and develop our work force. We have 11 local teams throughout the UK and Ireland that complement the work of our national team by helping individuals, groups or business units achieve local diversity goals. These teams identify challenges and recommend changes so that we can meet the needs of our employees and help them balance their career with personal commitments.

Diversity recruiting

We are actively involved in local and national diversity recruiting efforts, partnering with such sources as the Student Industrial Society, Students in Free Enterprise, Race for Opportunity and Inclusive Recruitment.

Diversity leadership training

We offer Diversity Orientation Training for all our employees as well as Diversity Leadership Training for managers. Our emphasis on diversity training is designed to help create better leaders and managers.

Supplier diversity programme

We work hard to make sure that our supplier base reflects the diversity of our community as a whole, especially by working to identify opportunities for minority-owned and women-owned companies to do business with Enterprise.

Community relations

With a presence in hundreds of local neighbourhoods, we depend on the support and goodwill of the people who live in those communities. We work in partnership with local leaders and support initiatives that are vital to the health and development of our communities.

Charitable giving

The Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation provides grants to causes that are selected by our employees, customers and vendors. Established in 1980, the Foundation continues to make a positive impact in thousands of local communities worldwide.

An award-winning environment

Overall, our aim is simple - to provide a friendly, supportive and inclusive working environment that people are proud to be a part of. Maybe that’s why we were named one of ’the 50 best companies to work for in Ireland’ for the second year in a row in 2006. The results were based on employee surveys and an assessment of company culture.

We also gained a place in the ’Times top 50 companies where women want to work’. The table provides readers with an insightful look at the UK’s most progressive employers and focuses on companies that have initiatives in place to nurture female talent.

And last but not least, we earned a 2006 O2 Ability Award in Ireland, recognising best practice in the employment of people with disabilities.

Flexible thinking that benefits our employees

But winning awards isn’t the most important thing. It’s more important that we work to nurture a business environment that is responsive and welcoming to all. This is an integral part of who we are as people and as a company.
