Irwin Mitchell is the 4th largest law firm, it practices in diverse legal areas and the largest Personal Injury practice, in the UK. The practice employs more than 2300 staff - with offices in Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle, and Sheffield as well as the Spanish cities of Marbella and Madrid.
Our Firm
Irwin Mitchell is a unique law firm due to the diversity of law we undertake – from commercial law to insurance law, from business crime to major and multi – claimant personal injury litigation, not forgetting our private client department. Our reputation for being able to deal with novel and complex areas of law is built on the many and varied cases we have undertaken. We have represented clients in high profile cases, such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease and the Hatfield rail disaster. And we continue to challenge legislation with landmark cases, including the breast cancer drug Herceptin.
What we look for
We are looking for ambitious and well-motivated individuals who have a real commitment to the law and who can demonstrate a positive approach to work-life balance. We recruit law and non law graduates and view social ability as important to us as academic achievement.
Training and Career Development
We offer a structured welcome programme to trainees joining the practice. Trainees spend the first year of their training contract undertaking 3 seats of 4 months in duration gaining practical experience in diverse and innovative areas of law. Having experienced 3 very different areas of law, trainees are then likely to know where they wish to qualify so during their second year trainees undertake a twelve month seat, in the area in which they and the firm wish them to qualify into.
Your development will be encouraged through frequent formal and informal reviews and feedback from experience solicitors, with early responsibility being encouraged. Regular training events are held throughout the firm often delivered in house by specialists in the field and the professional skills course is financed and run by the firm in-house.
Irwin Mitchell believes trainees to be an investment for the future and endeavours to retain trainees upon qualification.
Application Procedure
We offer both one week summer legal work placement’s and offer approximately 20 training contracts every year. To apply please complete the online application form which can be accessed via the firms website. Please see our website for further vacancy information and for our application deadlines.
