Kate doesn’t have a business or finance-related degree. Even so, she’s never felt at a disadvantage in PwC to those who do. “My degree helped me develop lots of transferable skills that I build on every day here. Presenting in course seminars boosted my confidence and my ability to put my point across in a concise, convincing way. Essays were great preparation for researching and writing coherent, easily digestible reports. And, of course, I became an expert at prioritising and managing my time.”

What prompted the move into professional services though?
“Work experience in an investment bank sparked my interest in a finance career, but I knew I’d need to join a firm that offered great training. PwC did.” So far we’ve more than met Kate’s expectations. “I joined a split programme that involves spending six months in Assurance to get a basic grounding in what’s involved, and then six months in Transaction Services. I’m currently studying for my ACA qualification, which should help me to get where I want to be.

I really enjoy the fact I’m constantly learning – and not just in college. Working on client sites is a great way to discover more about the business. Juggling the different aspects of my job with study for exams is challenging; but it’s really rewarding when you start off not knowing anything about a subject and five weeks later you know it inside out.”
