Employment Opportunities works with top employers to provide internship opportunities to students and recent graduates with a disability. We work with organisations in the investment banking and legal sector and the Civil Service and provide advice to candidates around disclosing a disability and requesting reasonable adjustments from an employer.
Investment Banking Internships: for this sector we are looking for candidates who are expecting or who have achieved a 2.1 ideally from a finance or numerical degree. However we will accept applications from candidates from any degree discipline if you have relevant work experience/extra curricular activities. We have vacancies in investment banking, sales and trading, IT, operations and many more. To apply you must have a strong drive to work in this sector and a clear focus as to which division you would like to apply for. The internships last from 8-12 weeks during the summer period and even though they do not guarantee a permanent full time role this is definitely a step in the right direction. The internship is paid and you will be given regular reviews and formal training.
Legal Sector Placements: The formal legal work placement is open to penultimate-year law students, final year non-law students and other relevant postgraduates or others who have satisfied the "academic stage of training" as required by the law society. Also we are ideally looking for candidates who are expecting to or have achieved a 2.1 degree and have some relevant work experience within the legal sector. Candidates must demonstrate a clear motivation for working in this competitive field and will be asked to justify this on a cover letter or application form. The placements take place during the holiday periods and will be paid, interns will be invited to any relevant company training and social events during their tenure.
Civil Service Summer Placement Scheme: The Civil Service offer placements across most of their departments including the Ministry of Defence, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and the Cabinet Office. Students who have achieved or expect to achieve a 2.2 in any degree discipline are eligible. Potential candidates must have a clear and well reasoned understanding behind their department choice and must have a genuine motivation and desire to work in the civil service. All summer interns will attend a skills workshop session which will provide assessment centre training and personal skills assessment. The placement lasts from 6-8 weeks and although does not guarantee a place on the Civil Service Faststream is definitely a step in the right direction.
