Name: Claire Turner
Age: 22
Job Title: Analyst
University: Oxford
Degree: Biochemistry
I started at LCP 3 months ago, having recently graduated with a Biochemistry degree and been offered a job here after the one-day graduate recruitment process. The in-house graduate training starts in your first week and is very thorough covering all the basics so that you hit the ground running in the office, and provides you with an opportunity to get to know and socialise with the other 15 or so graduates that have joined with you.
On joining LCP, I was assigned to a broad spectrum of clients that are managed by my team; clients that have large and small schemes, and those that are both new and old to LCP. This variety has exposed me to a multitude of different types of work, and has helped me achieve a good appreciation of the type of work that LCP does and what different types of clients need.
Most of the work I do at the moment are individual cases for members of a client’s scheme, which can be very varied; and aspects of the valuation process for a few schemes. I have also already been involved in the development of an in-house training session for more senior members of the firm, despite being so junior. Not having a maths degree has not held me back in my progression here, everyone is very keen to give me a wide variety of interesting work, and provide me with a helping hand when I get stuck on things. I have already started on my comprehensive study package, working towards three exams in April via one study day out of the office a week – it is useful to study the background to things I do in the office at the same time that I’m doing them.
I moved from Chester to London to come to LCP, knowing very few people here. Working in such a friendly team of 20 people helps you to settle in and get to know the people around you. As a first year, I am the team’s social secretary and have organised several socials, including a trip to Namco and the Christmas meal. This has helped me feel like a part of the team from day one, and I’m now in the process of organising a team weekend away to Europe.
