Right from my first interview, I’ve found LCP to be a young, dynamic firm that offers a relaxed but professional working environment. I’ve worked in the pensions actuarial department in the London office for nearly three years now and have found it to be a challenging and rewarding experience.
The work has been varied and interesting, and has provided opportunities to improve existing skills and develop new ones. LCP’s friendly yet professional reputation is well founded; colleagues are always willing to answer questions, and this approachability has allowed me to learn a great deal in a short space of time.
A great deal is learnt through on-the-job coaching, but all trainees also receive regular internal training sessions. What’s more, presenting such training sessions is a great opportunity to practice valuable communication skills.
I work in a team consisting of graduates through to fully qualified actuaries. This structure results in a constantly changing role, and clear progression up through the firm. By also being assigned to a variety of clients, I have developed a wide range of client-specific knowledge and good working relationships.
LCP’s location at the very heart of the West End provides lots of great social opportunities outside working hours. There are regular team outings and lots of sporting opportunities as well as social events for the whole firm. There’s always something to celebrate, even if it’s just the fact that it’s Friday!
LCP provides a very supportive atmosphere as well as a generous, well structured, study package. A ‘mentor’ with recent experience of the exams is appointed to each new graduate, to help with decision making and to discuss any worries. Sharing experiences with colleagues helps provide the moral support needed to ensure success.
I moved to London and joined LCP after graduating in 2004. After a week long induction with fellow trainees, I joined my team and the real work began! I now work for a huge range of pension schemes, with my expertise and responsibility increasing all the time.
