Your training and development is as important to ICI as it is to you. We can offer you the opportunity and support to challenge you to make your future whatever you want it to be. We expect you to exceed your own expectations and take responsibility for managing your own career. Your training programme will be unique and is defined by your function, your job roles, your motivation and ambition. We provide the opportunities, but in return, you must drive your career. Rather than tell you what you need, we expect you tell us – and tell us why.

Broadly speaking, training is delivered on 3 levels:

1) The Graduate Development Programme

The ICI Graduate Development Programme has been designed to provide our high potential graduate trainees with an understanding of the ICI Group, skills necessary for management and a network of peer contacts across all of our four businesses.

If this programme forms part of your development, you will attend four key events held across Europe during your first few years. Each event aims to enhance your business knowledge, management and team working abilities – and provide you with exposure to our cross-cultural, cross-business leaders.

2) Business Training and Development

Each of our businesses – ICI Paints, National Starch and Chemical, Quest International and Uniqema – has its own range of relevant training courses for individual development. Whichever business you join, alongside your challenging role from day one, your development is of the utmost importance. You will be supported by your manager, your peers, your team and in most businesses, a mentor.

3) Functional Training and Development

Functional training depends on the function you join, the country in which you are based and the job you are doing. In some countries, you will be supported to gain appropriate professional qualifications. For example, CIMA for finance, CIM for sales & marketing and CIPS for purchasing professionals.

Induction Programmes

Because our roles are unique and our trainees are individuals our induction programmes vary from business to business and location to location. However, the common theme of all inductions is to familiarise you with your role, your location and your colleagues – giving you the best tools to start your career with us.

Career Development

Most of our graduate traineeships last between 18 and 24 months, after which we expect you to move into a line management role. The responsibility for how quickly you move to a senior management position is yours and is dependent on how well you perform – it has been done in six years and if you have the potential, we have the opportunities.
