Looking for a stepping stone to your future career?

Are you still considering your career options but looking to do something constructive in the meantime that will improve your chances of employment? Over the past 21 years Raleigh International, the leading youth development charity, has sent 30000 volunteers to worldwide destinations to participate in a unique 3 phase programme which challenges them in a variety of situations and enables them to develop skills and self-confidence.

Programme structure

During each overseas programme you will work on three projects: community, environmental and adventure. For example, you could end up tracking endangered deer in Chile, building a primary school in Namibia or trekking through mountain ranges in Costa Rica. All projects are supported by the host country government and international or local development organisations. These have included The United Nations Development Programme, SightSavers and World Vision. These partnerships ensure that the projects are relevant and sustainable.

Destinations

We currently run overseas programmes in Costa Rica & Nicaragua, Namibia, Ghana and Malaysian Borneo.

Programme Length

Our full programmes last 10 weeks, however if you are short of time then we also offer 7 and 4 week alternative programmes.

Benefits

On each project you’ll be pushing the boundaries, overcoming challenges, and supporting each other as a team to achieve the project goals. You’ll develop skills such as leadership as well as self-confidence and a strong social and environmental conscience. You’ll constantly surprise yourself and leave with a real sense of achievement.

You will be part of a diverse mix of people from the expedition host country, career gappers, gap year students, graduates, participants from Raleigh’s Youth Development Programme, volunteer staff from all walks of life and international volunteers so you’ll learn about different cultures, make new friends, and have a laugh.

Many employers have recruited young people who have participated in a Raleigh International overseas programme and highly value the skills and confidence that a venturer can bring to his employment.
