Real Work….

Working in the SAP competency centre at Head Office is all about adaptability and responding to business needs. On my first day I was told that I would be working on a project team to implement SAP payroll for the UK. Having never worked with payroll or SAP before, I knew this was going to be a challenge!

Variety…

I had a great deal of on the job training and was amazed at how much I learnt during the 8-month project. Everyday was different, one day I would be attending workshops on different aspects of the payroll, another day I would be configuring within SAP then the next day I would be writing training documents before going on the train the end users! Being on the project development team involved working closely with the other members of the team, outside consultants, end users and management. This was extremely beneficial because it helped me get to know people from all aspects of the business.

After we implemented the payroll system, we then had a different challenge to face, user support! Supporting the users on a daily basis is a complete change to the development work I was doing during the project. This part of my job is extremely rewarding as you can help someone with a problem quite quickly and see immediate results.

Development

Since we have completed the project, I had some time available to go on a SAP payroll course in Dublin and will shortly be starting a First in Management course that will focus on managing information.

Life as an IT graduate at Pilkington is full of challenges, no two days are the same and there is always something new and exciting to sink your teeth into!
