Just finnished a Masters in Ecology and gained an Environmental Management degree.

Probably begin in the environmental sector since thats where the money is. But all the jobs ive looked at all need 3 years experience. Problem not got any relevent experience in the field.

Any tips how to get started?? Cant find any low paided (15k 17k) jobs to start on.

As a gaduate of 6 yrs and 4 different jobs all environmental (Waste, water and now gas) related i can asure you that there are many environmental jobs out there. If you dont want to be paid a pittance ie less than 18000pa try contracting.
My advise, get on the internet and register with every agency and job site you can. Recuiters will then hunt you, and with some slight embelishment of your experiences (without telling a bare faced lie)you can land any job, sometimes without even interview.

    Water Water Water.

From the big french boys like Suez & Tractebel to the americans like URS & Bechtel to the UK guys like Halcrow and Scott Wilson.

The area is big time due to global resource shortages.

Just make sure you highlight teamwork on your application as all these jobs are project orientated.

I just graduated with geography degree and it seems every job wants that golden '3 yrs' expereince.
Love to work abroad in conservation but seems the only way i could do it is with one of those charities and PAY to volunteer. If ony they would pay me, then my carrer problems would be over.
Still looking for internships/schemes but they all seem to be in London where i can't afford to live by myself but might have to.

    Hello all,

I empathise with you all, I am unfortunately in the same boat as those of you seeking employment in this sector. I have a BSc. (Hons.) Animal Biology & Conservation and have also recently attained a MSc Biodiversity and Conservation. I have tried being more than flexible on my applications for sutable employment, but thus far haven't gotten anywhere. I just need ONE chance to prove myself, just ONE!

I graduated in BSc Environmental Chemistry and i'm also trying to track down that perfect environmental job. Some places I've tried looking and would recommend are local water authorities/environment agency/Local Councils. Also a good idea is to check out your local yellow pages and find out about local independent companies and approaching them directly, whether it be for a job or maybe for just some advice. I have just joined a national agency www.penguinrecruitment.co.uk which specialises in technical/environmental jobs, have no idea what they are like but there's no harm in tryin'! If anyone has any other suggestions please let me know. Cheers.

I presume you guys know there are many graduate schemes available (some are finished this year but many are ongoing) that take people on into environmental positions? If not here's a little list to get you started:

Atkins, Faber Maunsell, MWH, Parsons Brinckerhoff, Royal Haskoning, Buro Happold, White Young Green, Halcrow, Hyder Consulting, Jacobs, Mott Macdonald, Black & Veatch, WSP Group, Scott Wilson, Capita Symonds, Grontmij, Maersk, Mouchel, Shell and BP. More importantly, they aren't all based solely in London, far from it.

More generalist sites that have a lot of job listings are:

    www.earthworks-jobs.com
    http://www.iema.net/jobs/view?showform=advanced

    Some agencies are:

    Penguin
    Monarch
    Allen & York
    Beresford Blake Thomas
    Huntblue

Oh and proper entry-level/graduate jobs will ask for at most 6 months of work experience, to try and weed out those who didn't do summer or industrial placements during their degree studies.
