Female graduates urged to promote jobs in IT

Female graduates working in the technology industry have been encouraged to act as role models for the profession.

According to Jan Peters, the Women's Forum Manager of the British Computer Society, young women need to promote the sector to schoolchildren so that more females will join the industry.

Ms Peters stated that women involved in technology apprenticeships should also act as role models to youngsters.

'They need to show them that it's not just about being a user of Word or Excel, working in IT is much, much, more varied,' she remarked.

And a career in IT offers females the chance to travel, earn good money and take advantage of plenty of opportunities, Ms Peters added.

Director of womenintechnology.co.uk, Maggie Berry, raised similar points last week.

Ms Berry spoke of the numerous opportunities the technology sector presents to women, describing it as an 'innovative and ever-evolving.'
