Travel sector urged to retain employees
More needs to be done to ensure that young people working in the travel industry stay within the sector, it has been argued.
Brian Wisdom, Chief Executive of skills council People 1st, noted that efforts need to be made to ensure that workers - including those in graduate jobs - are retained.
He explained that companies should worry less about losing employees to other companies within the sector and place a greater emphasis on ensuring they do not leave for a different career altogether.
'A good loyal person to the industry will go through two or three businesses in their career and actually all of those businesses will benefit from the progression,' said Mr Wisdom, adding that employees often return to the company they started at.
His comments come after People 1st revealed that around two million people in the UK are employed in hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism jobs - representing one in 14 workers.
