Graduates 'turn away' from financial sector
A new survey has found that graduates are abandoning their career searches in finance and opting for safer career routes in the face of the economic crisis.
According to a survey conducted by Reed, a fifth of respondents said they would enter industries such as media and marketing and the creative sector rather than finance at present, Personnel Today reported.
Of the 1,400 graduate respondents, 4% said they would choose a career in finance, 2% said banking and 3% would opt for accountancy career.
However, Head of Marketing for Reed Mark Rhodes has warned of the consequences of graduates shunning careers in the financial sector and said it could have 'a longer term impact on the pace of economic recovery in the UK'.
'We are seeing that graduates are shunning the traditional [city] jobs and looking for opportunities in different sectors,' he furthered.
Meanwhile, research conducted by analysts ContactBabel recently found that UK call centres are allocating large portions of their budgets to recruitment over the coming year.
