MoD awards contracts worth £231m
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced that General Dynamics UK will provide developments to the UK Armed Forces' Bowman military communications system as part of two contracts worth £231m.
Minister of Defence Equipment and Support Quentin Davies said the technology updates are essential in providing troops with the necessary knowledge and information they require to do their jobs.
He remarked: '[Bowman] is a key element of a comprehensive suite of communications systems to provide a robust network that allows commanders to exercise command and control effectively.'
Under the agreement, General Dynamics UK will provide more equipment, optimisation of the Bowman system performance and a rise in the synergy between the platform and other operations.
The first contract is worth £119m and will involve an update on the existing system to ensure it is up-to-date, while the second is a technical support and field services deal valued at £112m.
University leavers looking to join the MoD may benefit from their Fast Stream Development Programme that is targeted at providing graduate opportunities.
