24% of people pull post-festival sick days

Many people are likely to be going to a festival this summer, but after a heavy few days partying in a field, the thought of work on Monday morning may seem like too much to bear.

Indeed, for 24% of employees their festival hangover merits a day off work, according to a new Monster poll.

Although the firm acknowledged that a day spent in bed recovering may be tempting, it warned that this could send a message to employers that the member of staff is not committed to their career, Online Recruitment reports.

Instead, it recommended that people book time off work so they can let their hair down and enjoy themselves with a clear conscience.

Bosses can play their part as well - offering staff the option to take a 'duvet day' at a time of their choice during the quieter summer months is bound to improve staff morale while the sun is shining outside, Monster notes.

With the Big Chill due to be held on the Isle of Wight this weekend and the huge Reading and Leeds festivals approaching later in August, workers should start booking their days off now to avoid having to call in sick.
