Office workers feel SAD in sunshine

Many offices workers may feel demotivated and unhappy when the sun is shining, the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) has suggested.

According to research by the body, 58% of employees in the UK suffer from Summer seasonal affective disorder (SAD).

However, teachers enjoy 13 weeks of holiday - something that could attract graduates to this career path as the current minimum level of paid leave for most other jobs is 4.8 weeks a year, rising to 5.6 weeks from April 2009.

Chief Executive of the TDA, Graham Holley, described teaching as an 'immensely rewarding' career.

'There's no other job like it - but it is undeniably hard work during term time. The six-week summer break is a well-deserved benefit offering time for relaxation as well as time to catch up,' he remarked.

The TDA survey also found that 7% of workers will search for a new job on a sunny day, while the promise of sunshine means 8% of staff members are more likely to ring in sick.ADNFCR-1252-ID-18701806-ADNFCR
