Employers told to establish clear IT policy
Employers have been advised to establish clear guidelines on what their staff are allowed to do on the internet, the News Editor of Web-User magazine has suggested.
Ben Camm-Jones noted that IT managers are concerned about employees time-wasting or leaving their computers at risk of viruses by using the internet to look at things unrelated to work.
However, he stated that 'most of the problems can be circumvented with a very clearly established IT policy.'
Having such a policy would enable staff to have a clear understanding of what they can and cannot do, as well as giving employers something to refer back to, Mr Camm-Jones suggested.
His comments follow research from MessageLabs that found that there were 2,076 malicious websites blocked every day in June, which is an increase of 58% from May. Such sites can cause serious disruption to a business' computer system.
