British workers urged to consider Canada

Canada's government is hoping to fill skills shortages in a number of industries by recruiting British workers.

Hector Goudreau, Alberta's Minister of Employment and Immigration, has been sent to the UK to extol the virtues of living in Canada, including a low cost of living and good quality of life.

'There is beautiful scenery, the healthcare system is second to none in the world and our educational system is second to none,' he said.

Mr Goudreau also noted that his state's economy remained steady despite the global economic downturn, although analysts recently told CanWest News Service that the country's employment growth is 'drying up.'

The minister is here to recruit doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers, electricians and others. If they take him up on his offer it may be bad news for Britain's economy, as the UK is also suffering from skills shortages in many of these sectors.
