Career in logistics promoted to women
Women are being encouraged to take up a career in logistics, as according to Dr Mick Jackson, Acting Chief Executive of Skills for Logistics, the industry is suited to a wide range of people.
People from diverse backgrounds and of any age will be able to find opportunities in logistics, Dr Jackson stated.
There are a 'variety of opportunities' that are obtainable by jobseekers, he remarked.
Dr Jackson noted the role that women play in the sector, saying: 'Organisations like Skills for Logistics are raising the profile of the sector and encouraging more women to play an integral part in this exciting and challenging industry.'
Despite logistics being one of the UK's largest industries, it also one of its 'best kept secrets,' Dr Jackson concluded.
In Greater London, 29% of all logistics positions are held by women, the Labour Market Profile stated.
This is somewhat less than the overall female workforce in the region, which stands at 45%.
