Workers say they expect bonuses
Some British workers are expecting to receive large bonuses this year, despite widespread economic concerns, a poll shows.
The survey by Investec Private Bank found up to 84,000 workers were expecting a bonus payout of £100,000 for the last financial year.
Some 294,000 think they will receive bonuses of between £50,000 and £100,000.
Investec asked the respondents to say how they would use their windfall other than put it into a savings account.
A total of 27% said that they would use it to go on a holiday and 22% said they would use it to clear debts.
Recently, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed that average earnings for British workers in February excluding bonuses had grown faster than in any three-month period since November 2006.
Other recent ONS data suggested that the job market remains strong despite worries over the economy and a possible recession.
