    Workers say they expect bonuses

Some British workers are expecting to receive large bonuses this year, despite widespread economic concerns, a poll shows.

The survey by Investec Private Bank found up to 84,000 workers were expecting a bonus payout of £100,000 for the last financial year.

Some 294,000 think they will receive bonuses of between £50,000 and £100,000.

Investec asked the respondents to say how they would use their windfall other than put it into a savings account.

A total of 27% said that they would use it to go on a holiday and 22% said they would use it to clear debts.

Recently, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed that average earnings for British workers in February – excluding bonuses – had grown faster than in any three-month period since November 2006.

Other recent ONS data suggested that the job market remains strong despite worries over the economy and a possible recession.
