Southeast workers found to demand highest salaries
Workers in the South East of England demand the highest salaries, with an average annual paycheque of £21,165 expected by employees in this region, a new poll has revealed.
Conducted by Reed, the research showed that jobseekers in the South West of England and East Anglia also commanded the highest wages.
However, job-hunters in Northern Ireland are looking for the lowest wages, commanding an annual average salary of £17,556.
Operations Director at the firm, Martin Warnes, stated that a 'worrying' trend was noted in the research results.
'Women across the UK have far lower salary expectations than men - something which needs to be addressed, as there is no reason why in 2008 this should be the case,' he said.
He added that he expected workers in the South East to command the highest salaries, although the findings around the country were not as 'polarised' as he would have expected.
AllTheTopBananas.com recently revealed that the average advertised salary in London is £38,998, which is £10,000 higher than the average annual paycheque advertised in the rest of the UK.
