Manufacturing skills crisis revealed
The UK manufacturing sector could be hindered by a lack of skilled workers, a new survey has suggested.
According to a Russam GMS poll, most interim managers in the industry believe a skills shortage will hamper the success of businesses in the sector.
Tight profit margins and offshore manufacturing deals were also suggested as major hurdles for the industry in the near future, but the majority (86%) of the 400 interim managers questioned agreed that there is a skills crisis in the manufacturing sector.
John Wilson, Head of Manufacturing Practice at Russam GMS, noted that the problem is 'particularly pronounced' for firms seeking managers.
'It is an issue that needs addressing now if UK manufacturing companies want to retain their competitive edge in the future,' he stated.
However, interim managers in the sector may find their employment opportunities have increased.
This follows research by the group earlier this month that found there has been an increased need for interim managers in the finance sector.
