Women warned of career problems after childbirth
Women in the workplace have been warned by an expert that taking time out to have children could hinder their career path.
In fact, female professionals may find they have to work their way back up to the position they once held following maternity leave, Tanya Hine, President of the British Association of Women Entrepreneurs, said.
According to Ms Hine, this is an 'ongoing problem' in the workplace and is not a new issue just because it has hit the headlines recently.
'It always has been a problem that once you have children you're normally back at the bottom of the ladder and have to work yourself back up again,' she stated.
Women may also find the gender pay gap increases sharply when they reach their 30s, Trades Union Congress research revealed last week.
General Secretary of the TUC, Brendan Barber, suggested that females are being penalised for starting a family.
