Brits struggle to work 9 to 5, research finds

Employees in Britain struggle to make it through the working day because they feel too tired, a new survey has indicated.

High-street chemist Boots polled 4,000 workers and discovered that every day each employee is unproductive for 151 minutes due to fatigue.

The survey also discovered that most people who work nine to five don't wake up fully until 45 minutes into the day.

Furthermore, after a 32-minute lunch most workers hit a slump at 2pm.

This lull in productivity can last one hour and 14 minutes, Boots revealed, making only five hours of the working day productive for the average employee.

Angela Chalmers, a Pharmacist at Boots, said: 'It's hard to maintain energy levels when you're stressed out at the office.'

She advised employees to make changes to their lifestyle and diet to boost their energy levels.

'Our modern-day lifestyle often means we can find it tough to stay alert during the nine to five and we have become a nation of slumpers as a result,' she remarked.

According to the Trades Union Congress, Brits work the longest hours in Europe.
