Grads feel 'overqualified'
A new study has revealed four out of ten graduates feel their current employment does not match their level of education.
According to researchers from University of Kent, 30% of university leavers think they are overqualified for the position they work in, The Daily Mail reports.
The study involved 7,800 workers, with those in customer service fields more inclined to feeling they hold additional qualifications than necessary for their position.
Some respondents working in call centres believed they only needed A-levels to be qualified for their line of work.
The publication notes that the number of people who think their education does not match their current employment has risen by 5% over five years.
Professor Francis Green, one of the researchers, stated that the problem is not that there are too many graduates.
He commented that some degrees will lead to better jobs, which follows remarks yesterday from Donald McLeod of the Guardian that science and engineering disciplines are likely to be the most shrewd degree options.
'People need to be better informed about the variations in returns to degrees so they don't get disillusioned,' Professor Green said.
