PCS: Public sector can help economy
The public sector is in a position to help the UK economy to move forward, it has been claimed.
According to a Public and Commercial Services (PCS) Union spokesman, the increasing reliance people have on the sector means it is no time to reduce investment and jobs.
He remarked: 'There's huge sums of money gone into the city and arguably they should look at investing in public services rather than cutting and there's ways in which they can do that.'
His comments come after the Local Government Association revealed in May that positions have been cut in 90 per cent of local authorities in London and staff reductions have been made by three in five councils.
Recent statistics from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and KPMG showed that overall recruitment intentions in the public sector stand at minus three. The figures for the private sector and the voluntary sector are -30 and -12 respectively.
