Prospective teachers helped by new university course
Graduates thinking of teaching can now make use of a new course which has come available in Wales.
The free Prepare to Teach course is open to those thinking of embarking upon a teaching career and has been devised in order to help deal with the shortage of secondary school teachers in Wales.
Subjects offered for study include maths, modern foreign languages, science, design and technology, English and music, reported Walesonline.co.uk.
Some of the universities participating are Aberystwyth, Bangor, Swansea Metropolitan and Newport, helping potential teachers decide if the profession is for them.
The application process is conducted electronically, with candidates advised to apply via email and as early as possible as places are limited.
Teachers have hit the UK headlines over the last week as a report written by the Bristol and Durham Universities claimed that children's interest in science is being 'crushed' due to exam-focused teaching.
