    Graduates require 'relevant training'

Graduates need to be given relevant training while they are at university to help with their employability prospects, an expert has stated.

Speaking to The Guardian, Deputy Chief Executive of Skillset Kate O'Connor commented that the employment market has changed for graduates over the past few years.

'Until recently, most employers looked for graduates from any discipline as long as they were bright and adaptable,' she told the paper.

'But for the past three or four years the industry has been stressing the value of relevant training,' she said.

Thus Skillset - the Sector Skills Council covering film, television, interactive media and computer games - has been helping to create a network of screen academies to help develop the practical skills of students.

This echoes calls from Parity Training last week for IT managers to focus on developing their business knowledge.

The publication also noted that employers will need to do more to ensure their current employees are trained up to the right standard, which may mean universities in the future offering courses for those already in employment.
