Glasgow engineering graduate wins top design prize
An engineering graduate from Glasgow University has been presented with a top design award, it has emerged.
Gavin Armstrong, who took a product design engineering degree course at the Scottish institution, won the Glasgow 1999 Design Medal for putting together plans for a swath inverter that dries out hay, reports STV News.
Mr Armstrong said he was inspired by his experiences of growing up on a farm where the need to dry hay as quickly as possible was a routine problem.
'Since posting information about the design online, it has proved really popular with farmers across the world. So now I am working on making some changes to improve the design,' he commented.
The award was created to commemorate the designation of Glasgow as the UK City of Architecture and Design in 1999 and is given every year to a graduate from one of the city's higher education institutions.
