Government backs national hospitality academy
Plans for a national hospitality academy have been approved by the Government after People 1st, the sector skills council for hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism, organised a bid for funding for the project.
The Government is to provide £100m to establish the new National Skills Academy for Hospitality.
Minister for skills, David Lammy, said that ensuring the future of the hospitality industry is crucial to the 'success' of the UK economy. -

ICT skills means more money, employees told

A proficiency in IT may mean employees see bigger paycheques at the end of the month, a new report has suggested.
Conducted by UK online centres, the Economic Benefits of Digital Inclusion: Building the Evidence report stated that staff members with good ICT skills earn 3% to 10% more than their less technologically able colleagues.
And if schoolchildren are taught via technological and digital tools they will achieve higher GCSE results by a quarter of a grade, the report found. -

NUJ criticises work-placement exploitation
Media companies are exploiting the ambitions of journalism students and newly qualified graduates by getting them to work for no pay, according to an industry union.
A survey by the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) - which has around 38,000 members - found that more than half of journalists had completed unpaid work experience placements after they had qualified, some for as long as six months or more.
