CVs 'boosted' by gap years
Gap years are boosting the CVs of young people, it has been suggested.
According to STA Travel, students are choosing to become involved in a wide range of activities on their travels which can be used on their CVs.
'Gap years are also contributing to CVs more now than ever before as more and more gappers choose to include volunteering and learning experiences during their travels,' a spokesperson said.
The STA spokesperson remarked that the 'desire of young independent travellers' to take a gap year is stronger than ever.
There has been increased popularity in the number of gap-year students opting for bus and train passes so they can take their time travelling around each country, the spokesperson added, although round-the-world tickets are still the most popular.
Furthermore, STA Travel stated that it is getting even easier and cheaper to organise a trip abroad.
In March 2007, 39,000 people took a structured gap year, the Year Out Group discovered, an increase of 3,000 travellers from the previous year.
