Work/life balance of charity workers slipping, survey suggests

Graduates and other staff members working for charities are not completely content with their work/life balance, it has been suggested.

Preliminary findings of the Charity Pulse survey into work/life balance show charity workers feel they were better off last year, Third Sector reports.

The poll by Birdsong Consulting and Third Sector is open until 25 April, but the first 500 responses indicate charity workers are now less satisfied with flexible working policies.

And while confidence in their senior managers has increased, respondents suggested their pay is now seen to be less competitive than a year ago.

The 2007 Charity Pulse survey uncovered that the majority of charity employees in graduate jobs and other positions take pride in working for a charity and enjoy their work.

Another 64% of people who worked in the charity sector said they feel their employer inspires the best in them.

The greatest levels of job satisfaction were reported by graduates and other employees working for charities in the environmental, conservation and social welfare sectors.
