Accountancy career 'popular' among graduates
Accountancy jobs are becoming increasingly popular with graduates as the profession is seen to be a more stable alternative to careers in finance and banking in the current economic climate.
A report issued by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) shows that job security is the most important issue for graduates at the current time and that the accountancy sector is benefiting from this.
Sonja Stockton, PWC spokesperson, said: 'With 50% more applicants than at this time last year [ ] we could be seeing a renaissance for the profession.'
She added that students and recent graduates should begin to think about their career options as soon as possible in order to secure a good position upon leaving university.
According to FreshMinds Talent, Generation Y candidates would take a lower salary to work for a firm that has flexible working hours, allows people to work from home, uses their skills more and has better training programmes.
