Glasgow art school students struggle to find work

New research has found that graduates from the Glasgow School of Art have less chance of finding a job than their counterparts at any other higher education institution in the UK.

The Higher Education Statistics Agency data revealed that 18% of students at this institution were unemployed six months after graduation, the BBC reports.

This is the highest level in the country, although the school's Director said the results are misleading as artist's careers do not tend to follow the same trajectory as other professions.

Seona Reid told the news provider: 'The early career paths of artists, designers and architects are not as structured as those for graduates from other disciplines.'

Overall, Scottish graduates were actually found to have better employment prospects than those in England, with 95% going on to work and further study, compared to 93.5% south of the border.

In terms of subjects, medicine and dentistry have the highest rates of graduate employment, while scientists can expect high salaries, according to The Independent.
