'More women wanted' by logistics companies

UK logistics businesses are attempting to recruit more women, one expert has said.

Many companies are updating their facilities to create a more female-friendly workplace, according to the Acting Chief Executive of Skills for Logistics, Dr Mick Jackson.

On-site creches, gyms and canteens are being developed as one way of encouraging more females to join the industry, Dr Jackson stated.

Furthermore, he noted that positions such as delivery drivers and warehousing roles can offer shift patterns that may suit women who have children.

'[There are] even job opportunities that are based around working from home to fit in with family requirements,' Dr Jackson commented.

However, he added that there is 'still a long way to go' to attract more women to pursue a career in logistics.

Haulage executives have seen considerable pay rises in the past year, figures from the Chartered Management Institute have revealed.

Yet, redundancy rates in managerial positions in transport and logistics increased to 2.1%, reported RoadTransport.
