Job candidates reach for lucky underwear

Some job candidates indulge in superstitious conduct before an interview, a new poll has shown.

Conducted by Peninsula, the survey found that six out of ten job applicants will choose to put on their lucky underwear before an important interview, Online Recruitment magazine reports.

And 73% of the 3,024 people questioned said they check their daily horoscope before heading to a meeting with a prospective employer.

Peter Done, the Managing Director of Peninsula, issued firm guidance on such superstitious activities.

'Union Jack underwear is not guaranteed to get you the job, so get prepared, turn up early for the interview, dress smartly and sell yourself - leave your lucky underwear at home,' he stated.

Adding that he is 'amazed' at these findings, Mr Done said that interviews are a chance to try and display one's skills and expertise to an employer, not to wear a lucky pair of briefs or knickers.

Job candidates, regardless of their choice of underwear, may find they are more likely to be assessed via psychometric tests, according to news today from the Manager of the British Psychological Society's Psychological Testing Centre, Rachel Middleton.
