Law firms advised to tackle talent shortage
Law firms in the UK should be putting a recruitment strategy in place to tackle the current problems in the industry, Big Four company Deloitte has said.
As more workers in the sector look to move to the US or take up in-house positions, 90% of firms are reporting difficulties in attracting talented job candidates,
Director of the Strategic Employee Reward Team at Deloitte, Jon Clark, stated that smaller companies should promote benefits other than paycheques and bonuses.
'Firms outside of the Top 20 recognise that often they cannot compete with the larger firms on base pay and need to differentiate along other lines in order to compete for talent,' he remarked.
Deloitte revealed that big bonuses and healthy pay packets are still the main motivation for jobseekers in the sector, although other considerations such as company culture and career opportunities are becoming more important.
Recently Gary Slapper, Professor of Law and Director of the Centre for Law, told The Times that the launch of the Open University law degree ten years ago has, in the past 50 years, made the biggest change to broaden access to an education in the subject.
